Lot Essay

Sold with a certificate from Anne Demeurisse who was the director of the Valsuani foundry at the time this model was executed.
.
cf. C. Chevillot, L. Colas and A. Pingeot, François Pompon 1855-1933, Paris, 1994, p. 184, n. 19, and pp. 87, 89, 96-97 and 159 for illustrations of the Cerf model in various sizes.

This model was initially conceived in a larger size in 1929 and reduced in 1930. Eight examples of the smaller version were cast during Pompon's lifetime, all numbered. The same stag, edited by Pompon with the same measurements as the present example, was also cast in sand by the Andro foundry in 12 numbered examples.

We would like to thank Mrs. Liliane Colas for her assistance with cataloguing this lot.
