The Comité Marc Chagall has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

Chagall executed this work on the cover of the programme for the ballet Giséle, which was part of the Soirée hosted by Georges Pompidou in honour of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at the Théâtre Louis XV in the Château de Versailles on 15 May 1972.
