Lot Essay

'On assignment for Life, Gordon Parks made this shot on the Left Bank of Paris one Sunday morning after a rainstorm. Using a wide-angle lens, he planned his composition to center attention on the figures of pedestrians strongly silhouetted against daylight at the end of the long expanse of cobblestone street, emphasizing the feeling of distance.' - Photography Annual
