Lot Essay

'Well, I thought that I would like to have one that summed up the whole thing. That was a hymn to the beauty of nature, I suppose. And, it's bigger than all the others and I think, in a way, it will provide a centrepiece. It has symbolism. The whole of nature giving praise to the glory of God, if you like. So that there's the chalice and the Host and the bird symbolising the Holy Spirit, and God.' (John Coburn, 1988)
