Born Bronxville, New York, 1938. Studied at Boston University, School of Fine and Applied Arts, 1958-1961; then at Yale School of Art and Architecture, New Haven, 1961-63. Solo exhibitions include: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, 1975; Tate Gallery, London, 1984; and Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2006-2007. Group exhibitions include: On Some Major States of Contemporary Engraving (1945-1991), Centre d'Art d'Ivry - Galerie Fernand Léger, 1992; Age of Influence: Reflections in the Mirror of American Culture, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, 2000; Contemporary Voices: Works from the UBS Collection, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2005. He lives in New York.
