The combined edition was sixty, comprising six variants, each in an edition of 12, numbered as follows: No. 1 ed. 1-12/60 No. 2 ed. 13-24/60 No. 3 ed. 25-36/60 No. 4 ed. 37-48/60 No. 5 ed. 49-60/60 There were a further forty numbered in Roman numerals.

Elected into The American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York, 2002; won the Wolfgang Hahn Prize, Cologne, Germany, 2002. He died in 2013.
