Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated October 1993 and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with enamel miniature "Portrait of Hector Berlioz" in 1976, encased in 1977 and sold in 1993.

Hector Berlioz was born a French National in 1803 and died in 1869. He was famously known as an important romantic French composer with orchestral forces sometimes reaching over 1,000 musicians. He is best known for his compositions Symphonie Fantastique and composed over 50 songs and in 1864 was made Officier de la Légion d'honneur. The music of Berlioz is often regarded as extremely influential in the development of the symphonic form, instrumentation and the depiction in music of programmatic and literary ideas which are essential to musical Romanticism. Berlioz was considered very progressive for his day.
