Lot Essay

"In the last eight years I have been using lots of photographic imagery in my work. In other words, I have assumed the role of an image-editor; I rearrange images and juxtapose them to give them a new meaning. But I must confess that I didn't start off with the deliberate intention of mapping or collecting an encyclopedic archive of images. Instead it came into play organically, over time. And now that it has, the sheer quantity of it means that it is like an archive of a place in time.' (R. Rana, quoted in Rashid Rana: Everything is happening at once, exh. cat., Cornerhouse, Machester, 2011, p. 78).
