Lot Essay

Reference 4099 is one of the rarest chronographs of Rolex's non-Oyster chronograph family. It stands out by its substantial and angled "flared" or "spider leg" lugs. It was made in stainless steel or in stainless steel and gold.

The present watch boasts a beautiful case with sharp lugs and a crisp serial number on the back. The dial shows some fading as can be expected with the passing of time, while also underlining the fact that it has never been tempered with. The signature is very clear. An overall rare and honest watch with a distinctive look. To our knowledge, no more than 100 pieces of this reference were produced, making this the perfect opportunity for collectors to secure a piece of Rolex lore.

A stainless steel version of reference 4099 is illustrated in 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by J. Goldberger, pp. 74-75.
