Patek Philippe. A large and rare 18K gold chronograph wristwatch with black dial, original Certificate and box
Prospective purchasers are advised that several co… Read more In 1998, Patek Philippe launches its first chronograph-only wristwatch in nearly forty years, the reference 5070. Prior to this model, the last "simple"chronograph that Patek Philippe manufactured was the reference 1463, whose production ceased in the 1960's. Reference 5070 is significant in the history of the manufacture because it is the first oversized watch in the Patek Philippe family, which reflects the increasingly demand for larger timepieces. With a case which measures 42mm in diameter and 13mm in thickness, this model is easily recognizable from other Patek Philippe wristwatches and signifies the manufacture's stylistic shift to its newest generation of watches. The design of this reference 5070 is inspired from the reference 2512 that dates back to the 1950's, an aviator split-seconds chronograph. First produced in yellow gold only in 1998, reference 5070 was then manufactured in white gold in 2001, in pink gold in 2003, and since 2008 in platinum only. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that all four case versions of Patek Philippe reference 5070, are offered in the same auction at the same time. Furthermore the 4 models are in spectacular as new condition, with presentation box and original certificate.
