Lot Essay

With Breguet original fitted veneered presentation box, decorated with metallic image of a tourbillon, as well as outer white cardboard packaging, instructions and a combined Certificate of Origin and Warranty booklet stamped 7 March 2002. Furthermore delivered with instructions, oval gilt loupe engraved Breguet on a cartouche in the centre on engine-turned surround. The loup is engraved 1801 - 2001

According to the Archives of Montres Breguet, the present watch was manufactured in 2001.

Reference 1801 in 18K white and 18K pink gold is part of a special edition of commemorative timepieces, which was specially created and designed to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the invention of the tourbillon by Abraham Louis Breguet on "7 Messidor An 9". This date during the short-lived French Republican or French Revolutionary calendar corresponds to June 26, 1801. The reference of the model pays homage to that historic year in horology.

The present wristwatch is beautiful to hold in the hand, as well as stunning when worn on the wrist. When opening the front cover, which springs up with a slight clicking sound when the button on the crown is operated, one is reminded of pocket watches and a time when they were the ultimate in elegance and status. The half hunter case cover opens up smoothly to reveal the one minute tourbillon carriage, neatly secured under a horizontal bridge with two screws. Turning the watch, the finely engraved backplate is visible with a cut-out for the tourbillon. Executed with precision and attention to detail, the watch is a great collector's item and a piece with a real sense of nostalgia.
