Lot Essay

Countess Elizabeth Georgiana Spencer, née Poyntz (1799-1851), was the cousin and subsequently first wife of Vice-Admiral Frederick Spencer, 4th Earl Spencer KG, CB, PC (1798-1857). They had two daughters and a son, the eldest of whom, Lady Georgina Spencer (1832-1852) is depicted here with her mother. She died unmarried.
