Lot Essay

According to Dr. Kenneth W. Maddox of the Newington-Cropsey Foundation, the present work likely depicts a Staten Island scene as "the format is similar to Cropsey's Looking Oceanward from Todt Hill (1895, Staten Island Museum, Staten Island, New York)."

This painting will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the works of Jasper Francis Cropsey by the Newington-Cropsey Foundation, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
