Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 2002 and its subsequent sale on July 26th of the same year. Further accompanied by an undated Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, Patek Philippe presentation box, leather envelope, product literature, setting pin, and outer packaging.

To the best of our knowledge this watch has never before been offered in public.

Reference 5059 was launched in 1998 and produced through 2006. Along with the reference 5050, they were the only watches produced in that period by Patek Philippe that featured a retrograde date. Reference 5059 was also the first model since references 2497 and 2438 to feature sweep seconds with a perpetual calendar.

Approximately 600 examples of the reference 5059 were produced in yellow gold, with only 150 examples produced in each of the other metals.
