The first Mark IX watches were produced in the 1930's as a pilot's watch to assist air crews with navigation. The present watch is number 343 of the Spitfire Mark XV series that was produced in a limited edition of 1000 watches and reserved exclusively for the British market. The case back features an engraving of a Spitfire Mark XV combat plane and commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
