Lot Essay
Accompanied by an Omega Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch on October 26th in 1957 and delivered to the US Army Foreign Exchanges. Further accompanied by a sterling silver Omega presentation box.
In 1952, Omega launched the Constellation family, symbolized by the Geneva Observatory, where Omega had just beat their own record for precision a year earlier, in 1951. The Cupola of the observatory is depicted surrounded by eight stars, which represents the firms achievements with precision in watchmaking.
The Constellation was further produced in several degrees, as the regular model in steel or gold, the Constellation Deluxe only manufactured in gold, and the Constellation Grand Luxe, manufactured in gold and platinum, with corresponding dial and "brick-line" bracelet, and delivered with a sterling silver presentation box. Over the next few decades, the Constellation model would be manufactured with different dial and case designs, complications, and movements.
The present watch is a fine example of the Constellation Grande Luxe model, and remains true to it's advertising as being "for the man who already has a watch."
