Lot Essay

Similar to a drawing from Rosa's Florentine period, The Rest on the Flight into Egypt (see M. Mahoney, The drawings of Salvator Rosa, New York, 1977, I, 25.9; II, ill.). Michael Mahoney confirmed the attribution of the present drawing at the time of the 1998 Sotheby's sale.
