Lot Essay

Possibly the same drawing listed in P.-A. Lemoisne's caatalogue raisonné under no. 1248 (L'oeuvre d'Eugene Lami (1800-1890): lithographies, dessins, aquarelles, peintures: essai d'un catalogue raisonné, Paris, 1914) which was previously in the Binder collection, sold in Paris on 8 April 1873, lot 50. There are two other versions of this composition by Laimi, one in the Fogg Art Museum, Cambridge, MA, and another which was on the art market in Basel in 1970.

We are grateful to Caroline Imbert for confirming the attribution to Lami based upon a digital photograph and providing us with additional information about this watercolor.
