Lot Essay

Juan Muñoz manages to imprint on his characters, even if they are isolated from a specific context, their own personality of a narrative nature. This sculpture in resin of a man painted red, sitting on some wooden steps, also painted in red, attracted us immediately. It was exhibited at a fair on a tall and narrow iron table (recommended by the artist), so as to be at the viewer's eye-level. Its ability to attract attention is incredible. Once it came home, we also provided it with a tall iron base, and we were surprised by the potential of the sculpture to "dominate" the room. Wherever it is placed, it appropriates the surrounding space, making it its own. The tiny details of the figure, which has a particular softness in the red-coloured resin, are remarkable. We have even become used to his presence, as though to an "observer" who is checking everything that happens on one floor of the house.
