ANSEL ADAMS (1902-1984)
VARIOUS PRIVATE COLLECTIONS Yosemite Valley is like an enormous Gothic cathedral whose gray granite walls rise straight up to a blue roof. Its perimeter is adorned with natural sculptures visible through the clearing storm in Ansel's photograph, El Capitan on the left; Sentinel Rock and the Three Graces on the right; Half Dome shrouded by clouds in the distance. In the spring the snow in the high country melts and massive amounts of water thunder from the rim to shake the valley floor...No wonder Ansel was enchanted. Andrea Stillman
