'In contrast to his contemporary painter-colleagues, Henning takes up traditional genres as topoi: hence his paintings fall strictly under the categories of portrait, still life, nude and landscape. Henning serves art clichs of decades past and takes aim at the "good taste" of enlightened bourgeois collectors which seems to have become almost extinct (to his regret).'
