Born in Guangzhou in 1949, Szeto Lap left for France and settled down since 1975. Through the scenes he has created we glimpse tranquility and vitality manifested within faithful renditions of still-life objects. In 2006's Lavender Orchid (Lot 37), a background of feldgrau and grey is layered with contours of jade-green Orchid leaves, inaugurating multifarious contrast between light and shadow. Bearing a sense of secluded sophistication that will stand the test of time, the centered purple orchid is the graceful combination of Szeto's philosophical notions and techniques.
