Further Details
The original collection of engraved gems was formed by Arthur Richard Wellesley, 2nd Duke of Wellington while Marquis of Douro. The eldest son of Arthur Wellesley Ist. Duke of Wellington he was a keen collector and patronised the contemporary gem engravers as well as buying ancient stones.
