PETRUS 1982
Lying in Weybridge, Surrey (EHD)
Pétrus 1982
Pomerol, cru exceptionnel
In original wooden case. Very slightly corroded capsules, one slightly damaged. Three slightly damaged labels, otherwise good appearance. Levels: six into neck, four base of neck, two top-shoulder

Tasting note: Picked in one day by a large team at the end of a very hot harvest. My highest marks in the early to mid-1990s: rich, velvety, fleshy, ‘a velvet-lined mouthfiller’. Fully evolved but with all the components to warrant a long life. Most recently, still deep and richly coloured; bouquet harmonious and complacent; full, rich, certainly impressive but if one is to be overcritical, a bit obvious and lacking the zest and drama of the top Médocs. But this will not deter the world’s richest. Last tasted Oct 2000 *****
