Lot Essay

According to the Archives of Breitling, the present watch was made in 1955.

The dial of the present watch features the national emblem of Oman, the khanjar dagger in a sheath superimposed upon two crossed swords, symbol for watches made to special order for the Royal household of the Sultanate of Oman. We believe the watch remained unsold for many years before being sold to the Sultan of Oman.

The Breitling "Unitime" model was introduced in the mid-1940s and promoted as "Unitime, automatic, shows simultaneously the hour in all world countries. The exceptional watch for the modern business man (transatlantic phone calls, air travels etc.)". Later models were also called "Worldtime" (see Breitling by Benno Richter, pp. 36 & 83).
