Lot Essay

The present watch is number 12 of a limited edition of only 13 examples of this model launched in 1999 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Cartier's famous boutique at 13 Rue de la Paix in Paris, building purchased by Alfred Cartier in 1899.

The model is a re-edition of Cartier's famous "Driver's" wristwatch launched in the early 1930s. The curved case was designed to be worn on the side of the wrist to facilitate the reading of time while holding the steering wheel of a car.
