Lot Essay

A single vase of this design is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum (accession number m.19-1998).

The San Lorenzo Studio was founded in 1970 by a group of Milanese architect-designers seeking to integrate the skills of the traditional silversmith with contemporary design. The designers of this vase, husband and wife Tobia (b. 1935) and Afra (b. 1937) Scarpa, trained as architects at the University of Venice and were among the first to contribute to the project. Their design collaborations have been exhibited at major international institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Louvre, the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
