Lot Essay

Henri Lavabre's collaboration with Cartier is more commonly associated with his atelier's work on enamelled and carved gem-set objets d'art, clocks, watches, vanities and cigarette cases of the early 20th century, his workshop being one a select number to whom Cartier outsourced this highly skilled work. In 1906 Cartier further underlined this patronage lending Lavabre's workshop Fr50,000, thereafter ensuring Lavabre worked exclusively for Cartier, executing only their designs and models until 1921.
