The silvered dial with black painted Roman numerals, luminous hands, secret signature at seven o'clock, date aperture and three engine turned subsidiary dials indicating constant seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hour register, to the large rounded square case with matt finish and polished bezel with screw detail, two chronograph buttons in the band either side of the faceted crown, the strap with a Cartier double deployant clasp, automatic movement, circa 2006, convention hallmarks for 18 carat gold, case 4.4cm wide, maker's case and papers

Lot Essay

The "Santos" wristwatch was originally designed by Cartier's founder, Louis Cartier in 1904 for the prominent Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont in answer to his friend's request to be able to check the time while flying. Cartier created the "Santos 100" in 2004 to commemorate its 100th anniversary.



Please note that the strap for the above watch may be made of endangered or protected animal materials, such as crocodile, it is not sold with the watch but is for display purposes only. Christie's will remove and retain the strap prior to collection by the purchaser.
