Lot Essay

cf. J-P. Midant, Sèvres, la Manufacture au XXème Siècle, Paris, 1992, p. 55 for an illustration of this model in biscuit.
I. Böstge, Agathon Léonard Le Geste Art Nouveau, Paris, 2003, p. 75, n. 58;

This model was originally the twelfth dancer of a group of fifteen for a biscuitware centrepiece created by the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres in 1897. A porcelain version was made for the Exposition Universelle, 1900, Paris. In the light of the great success of these figures, Susse Frères made an edition in bronze.
