ithograph, 1903, on tissue-thin Japan paper, signed in pencil, a fine, early impression of the very rare first state (of five), before the image was transferred to a new stone, printing quite lightly and transparently (Woll's type 1), with wide margins, presumably the full sheet, with deckle edges at left and right, the tip of the lower right corner made-up, a skilfully repaired tear in the upper margin, another at the upper right sheet corner, pale mount staining in the margins, some minor adhesive stains at the sheet edges, otherwise in good condition, framed

Woll records only four impressions of the first state, excluding this example: two in the Munch Museum, Oslo; one in the Bergesen Collection, Oslo; and one in another private collection. Another impression, with the upper left part of the subject made up, was sold in these room on 18 September 2013.
