Lot Essay

‘Mona Hatoum created ‘Untitled (Basket)’ specifically for The Eve Appeal. This work has similarities with a series of works from 2012-2013 entitled Kapan, Kapancik and Cellules which are cage-like structures made from steel rods. Caught inside each cage is a blood red amourphic glass form, reminiscent of a bodily organ trapped within a strong frame. However, the basket here is itself a more fragile open frame for the equally fragile red organic glass’ (Dominic Hourd, Art Event Manager, The Eve Appeal, 2014).
