Lot Essay

Michael de Yugoslavia is the son of Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia and Princess Maria Pia of Savoy. His paternal grandfather, Prince Paul of Yugoslavia (1893-1976), was the regent of Yugoslavia. His maternal grandfather, Umberto II (1904-1983), was the last king of Italy. Michael was born in 1958 and educated in France, Switzerland, England and Germany. He travels widely and frequently to hone his keen sense of observation, which he puts to great use in his photography. Photography has always been a passion shared by his entire family, but particularly by Michael, who believes that capturing extraordinary moments and images free his mind. Nature is also a favourite subject, as Michael sees a unique sense of order in the natural world, which he articulates through his pictures.
