Lot Essay

Private Thomas Hughes of the Connaught Rangers won the V.C. for his action on the 3rd September 1916 at Guillemont. Where, whilst already wounded, captured an enemy machine gun position single-handedly and, even after being wounded again, took several German soldiers prisoner.
