Prospective buyers should be aware that the import… Read more LOTS 1522-1523 PROPERTY OF A CHINESE AMERICAN COLLECTOR Guan Jiyu The painting is dedicated to Guan Jiyu (1899-1975), sobriquet Pei Heng, a native of Fengtian (present day Liaoning). Guan acted as a high-ranking official for the Chinese National Party, attending Beijing's Chao Yang University in 1924 and later graduated from Berlin University. He returned to China in 1932 and took up positions as tax auditor for the Tianjin Finance Department, as well as training officer for the Lushan Training Camp in 1934. In 1935 he joined ranks and in 1940 he acted as finance minister for the Jiangsu Finance Bureau. After the Sino-Japanese War, Guan took up several important ministerial posts and moved to Taiwan in 1949. In Taiwan Guan became Secretary General for the Examiners Office as well as Director of the Kaohsiung Ammonium Sulfate Corporation.
