Lot Essay
In 1968, upon seeing the images of Earth taken by the astronauts on Apollo 8, Liu Kuo-sung was inspired to develop his space painting series. Further motivated by the first manned moon landing in 1969, he began to contemplate on the cosmic vision of stellar bodies in motion, which he imaginatively depicted in The Composition of Distance series. Liu's abstract and textured brushwork creates a free and vast space underneath the sun and moon - one that draws the viewer into an infinite, celestial universe.
