Born in Chengdu in 1960, Hu Bing studied at the Sichuan Normal University, and upon her graduation in 1988 she continued her research in art theories at the China National Academy of Arts. In 2001 she was invited by the China Artists Association to go on a study trip to various European countries, during which she held exhibitions in Paris, France and Ansbach, Germany. Hu currently works at the Sichuan Museum of Art.
Tibetan girls feature heavily in Hu's works. She has spent over a decade on the subject, visiting Tibet and nearby regions every year to seek inspiration and sketch. In pursuing simplicity in her artistic creation, Hu employs unassuming lines and an intricate mix of colours to express a pure and idyllic spirit that she admires in Tibet. The robust sunlight juxtaposes the cold climate of the highlands, resulting in the splendid colours of Tibet's livelihood that Hu captures brilliantly through the Tibetan girls' dresses and their backgrounds.
