Lot Essay

Farhan Siki's art practice revolves around the appropriation of emblems of contemporaneity. Renowned for his capacity to avail himself of mass/pop culture codes (logos, icons, brands, lettering) or symbols of "high" art and to use them to startling effect within a satirical, polemic context, Siki employs this to good effect within Spashing Mona #14, a work which has usurped the Mona Lisa within a graffiti stencil effect and covered her image with paintball splashes. Siki attempts to depict this.
