Lot Essay

The present work was owned by John Drinkwater (1882-1937) until 1932. Drinkwater was an English poet and playwright, and had his first major success with the play Abraham Lincoln, which was later adapted into a short film. He followed this with the plays Mary Stuart and Oliver Cromwell.
