Lot Essay

In the digital age, it seems that distinctions between ‘conceptual’ and ‘documentary’  categories are increasingly obsolete. Andreas Gefeller’s works are compositions that explore place and objects. The Academy of Arts pictures are a brilliant body of works that are both fictive and real - Gefeller likens the individual rooms to the zoom function in Google Earth. As such, it responds to the human desire to get closer, to unlock secrets, to see through walls.
