Black ink, opaque pigments and gold on yellow paper, the large inscription in black rounded script arranged as a large blossoming lotus flower, bordered with arabesques, the reverse with two lines in black nasta’liq script, framed and glazed

Lot Essay

The inscription reads "Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth" - the first part of the Light Verse (Qur'an 24:35). An inscription on the reverse reads: "I presented this calligraphy to Qasam Akhun on Saturday 19 Safar 1316 [29 June 1898]".
