Pen and wash on paper, the Shah wears a tall black hat and black coat, within a panel with gold, black and blue rules, the margins with similar outer rules, a number of rubbed seals towards the bottom of the folio, the reverse with a letter in hand of the Shah, mounted, framed and glazed

Lot Essay

On the reverse of this drawing is mounted a letter from Muzaffar al-Din Shah to his son Prince Shu'a al-Saltana, dated 20 Rabi' I AH 1320/27 June 1902 AD. The Shah writes that he will stay in Karlsbad in Germany until the end of the month in order to drink the waters but that he misses him.
