Lot Essay

In 1973 the Milanese publisher Luciano Anselmino commissioned various artists, including Joan Miró, to collaborate on a present to be presented to Man Ray on the occasion of his 80th Birthday. Each artist was to produce a series of prints to be published in an edition of 100. The circumstances surrounding the project and its early demise are unclear - the Miró Foundation in Barcelona has been able to shed little light on the affair. What we can say with certainty, however, is that the number of impressions actually printed must have been very few.
