Lot Essay

Reference 6265 was introduced into the market in the early 1970s, simultaneously with its peers 6263 and 6264, the first "Oyster" versions of the celebrated "Cosmograph" model. Available in stainless steel, 14K and 18K gold, the models were fitted with the "screw down" chronograph buttons, the tachymeter scale engraved directly onto the bezel. Models in 14K gold, such as the present watch, were exclusively reserved for the North American market.

For detailed descriptions and illustrations of the different versions of reference 6265 see I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 336 - 349.
