Lot Essay

Hine’s photographic ode to the union of man and machine stands as one of the iconic images of the 20th century. The image has also been the focus of negative attention through the release onto the market of posthumous exhibition-format prints presented as authentic life-time prints.

The present print was acquired in the early 90s and is a legitimate later printing.
