This large set of Louis XVI side chairs was made by the ébéniste Claude Chevigny, who worked from the rue de Cléry during the last quarter of the 18th century and specialised in luxury seat furniture for the French nobility and other important clients. Chevigny received important commissions from both the duc de Choiseul for the Château de Chanteloup and the duc de Montmorency for the Château de Modave in Belgium.
