Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Salomon Grimberg and to Susan Aberth, Ph.D. for their assistance cataloguing this work.

The scholar Susan Aberth believes that this drawing is a caricature of the British upper classes at the racetracks and may refer to the Ascot Racecourse in the village of Ascot, Berkshire--one of the leading racecourses in the United Kingdom. Carrington herself was an avid horse rider and during her coming out to society in 1934 attended the races at Ascot in the royal enclosure.
