Lot Essay

We are grateful to Fred G. Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, for confirming the attribution on the basis of a photograph, and for providing information about the provenance, noting as well that when the present work was sold in 1967 it was followed by its pendant (lot 99). Van Vucht's typically small works, like the present picture, are painted with careful detail in grey-brown tones. Only about 30 works attributed to him are known today.
