LOT 1369 PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF DONNA WALKER This painting is from the Estate of Donna Walker who was born in Illinois in 1925 and lived with her journalist husband Julian Shuman and her children in Beijing from 1965-1972. Donna herself worked for the Central Newsreel and Documentary Film Studio in Beijing and was often invited to special banquets as guests of honour. It was during her years in China she acquired this painting by Li Keran, eventually returning to the USA in 1972 where she ran a San Francisco based firm called China Tours when China re-opened to American tourists. In the 1980s Walker co-founded China Books, the first bookstore in the City to offer publications from China, her connection to the country remaining strong until she passed away in 2012.
