Lot Essay

Xie Chunyan (Born 1941), a native of Shandong, is an art critic and Shanghai Painting Academy Senior Teacher, with previous posts as a teacher, journalist and editor. His painting style is unique and imbued with literati and humourous qualities, and he has been named as an important figure in the school of New Literati Painters.
Having visited America, Singapore, Japan from the 1980's to conduct talks and exhibitions, he was awarded special artist status by the San Francisco City in 2002.
